What respondents see in a chat survey

In a Formfex chat survey, the person answering sees a messaging thread with Fexra, not a page of fields. Here is what happens on their side, step by step, and what reaches you.

Updated October 21, 2026

From the link to the first message

The respondent opens a link, or an interview embedded in a page. A welcome screen says the interview is a short conversation with Fexra and gives an estimated duration. On a private form they first confirm their email address with a one-time code.

Once they start, the first question arrives as a message from Fexra.

Answering in the thread

Each Fexra message ends with exactly one question. Earlier messages stay on screen, and progress stays pinned at the top, together with the time left when the form has a time limit. How they answer depends on the question:

  • Free text: type a reply and send it
  • Single choice or dropdown: tap one of the options
  • Multiple choice: tap several options, then send them together
  • Rating: tap a value from 1 to 5

Asking back

If a question is unclear, the respondent can simply ask what it means. Fexra answers in at most two sentences, based on the purpose you gave the form, and then asks the same question again. It explains up to twice per question; after that, the reply is taken as the answer.

A question asked back does not count toward the question limit or the progress bar, and it is not kept: it never appears in your sessions, analysis or export. Requests that have nothing to do with the form are declined in one sentence, and the conversation returns to the current question.

Changing an earlier answer

Respondents can edit an earlier answer in its own message, with the same kind of control the question had. The conversation does not rewind; it continues from where it is. An edited message shows an "edited" mark, each answer can be changed a limited number of times, and you only see the final value.

What you get back

The chat changes how the interview looks, not what it collects. Every completed conversation reaches you as structured answers and the Required information you declared, with the transcript and a short analysis of the session.

When the conversation ends, the respondent sees a thank-you screen; it does not show their answers or any analysis. Smart Analytics summarises patterns across all sessions, and AI Chat, called Ask Your Data in the product, answers your questions about them in plain language.
